Matthew Greeff
Professional hunter and outfitter · Lowveld, South Africa · Est. 1989
Matthew was raised in the Lowveld and has never really left it. He took his first professional client into the field in 1989 [VERIFY], and thirty-six years on he is still guiding — quietly, personally, and only for as many hunters as one man can look after well.
He hunts the same country he grew up hunting. That continuity is rare in modern safari and it is not incidental to what we do. When a client asks Matthew where a particular kudu bull was standing seven years ago, he can usually take you to the tree.
His credentials are formal — SCI Life Member and Official Measurer, Dallas Safari Club, a founding member of CPHC-SA, the 2016 Basie Maartens Award — but the credentials that matter to him are the clients who send their sons, and then their grandsons.
Away from the rifle, Matthew is an NSCA-certified sporting clays instructor and runs the shotgun program at the Gold Valley Estate. He has strong opinions about ethical fair chase, mediocre opinions about whisky, and no opinions at all about social media.

"The hunt is the animal's, not the hunter's."
Fair chase is not a marketing line at our lodge. We hunt on foot wherever the terrain and the animal allow. We shoot mature males only, from measured, sustainable off-take numbers set with our biologists each season. We do not shoot from vehicles. We do not bait. We do not offer canned or put-and-take hunts under any circumstances.
If a client wants to hunt any other way, we're not the outfitter. That's fine — but it's worth saying up front.
